If you have never taken your toddler to any kind of sports class, it is perfectly reasonable to want to know what will happen within the class, what your toddler will be learning and how you can help them to progress.

In this guide, we are going to look at when your toddler can start football class, how to find the right football class and how you can help them to stay engaged when they are at home.

Let’s get started!

When Can Your Toddler Start Football Class?

When your toddler can start football class is entirely dependent on which classes you are looking at. At our Socatots classes, your child can start attending from 6 months old. All of our classes are split up into age groups so at this young age, your child will be with children who are aged 6 months to 1 year old.

How Often Should They Be Attending Class?

It is advised that toddlers are active every day for at least 180 minutes (3 hours). This should be spread throughout the day and include a variety of activities, like playing outside and attending sports classes.

Saying this, at such a young age, it is a good idea to stick to one football class a week. This will help to keep football classes exciting and engaging. Our toddler football classes are 40 minutes long so as to help your child stay engaged and attentive.

Finding The Right Toddler Football Classes In Bedford

When it comes to finding a toddler football class, you need to know that you are finding the right one for your toddler. You want your toddler to learn something, feel safe and have fun. These are the things you should be on the lookout for.

Right Age Group For Your Toddler

When looking for classes, you need to make sure that they have classes that are the right age group for your toddler. The right age group will mean that your child will do age appropriate activities, the class will be the right length and your child will not be left behind or lost in the crowd.

Our classes are divided into age groups. Our first group is for children aged 6 months to 1 year. The next group is 1-3 year olds and then 3-5 year olds.

Individual Approach

You want to look for classes that take an individual approach with each child. Even when placed into appropriate age groups, some children will excel at some skills and struggle with others. You need to know that your toddler will be treated as an individual and helped with the things they need help with.

At Socatots, we take account of each child’s needs and progress, celebrating their successes and helping them overcome any areas they find more challenging.

Fun At The Forefront

When it comes to toddler football, you have to know that they are having fun. Yes, they might go on to be pro-footballers but, at this young age, football training should have an element of fun.

All of our classes start with some free play, there is music and all the activities are fun. Each class, each toddler gets a sticker and a round of applause.

Safe Environment

Finally, you need to know that your toddler will be in a safe environment. All of our coaches are DBS qualified, UKCFDS qualified, first-aid trained and fully insured.

Plus, you will be there every step of the way. In our Socatots classes, parents play a vital role, staying throughout the class and helping their toddler with all the activities. This is important because your involvement helps them to feel safe,  increases their confidence and self-esteem, whilst strengthening the emotional bond that you share.

How You Can Help At Home

You can help your toddler to progress and to stay engaged by having a play at home. This could be doing some of the activities at home or just kicking a ball around the garden or local park. We recommend getting a Size 1 ball for practising with your toddler.

You could also watch football with your toddler, on the televisions or taking them to a match. They will be able to see your enjoyment of the game and want to join in.

What If They Lose Interest?

Toddlers go through phases so they could lose interest. It is important that you listen to your toddler and don’t force them to do something they aren’t enjoying. Let them take a break but maybe still have a kick around in the garden.

When they are ready, our classes will still be here for them.
